The jokes and the politics usually grab the bulk of the headlines around the annual White House Correspondents' Association weekend party-fest that takes over Washington at the end of each April.

But there's also a strong, if less well-known, contingent of players coming from the business realm.

One of the best places to spot those business players is the annual Garden Brunch, held April 30 this year at the Beall-Washington House in Georgetown, the historic former home of the late Washington Post Publisher Katharine Graham and now the home of Mark Ein of Kastle Systems and his wife, Sally.

The event has become a fund- and awareness-raiser for a variety of causes. This year’s event aimed to raise awareness of the Halycon Incubator, the early stage social entrepreneurship fellowship program supported by Sachiko Kuno, co-founder of Sucampo Pharmaceuticals Inc. and now CEO of the S&R Foundation. Kuno was introduced by fellow entrepreneur Sheila Johnson of Monumental Sports & Entertainment.

There were a number of high-profile top executives spotted making the rounds and mingling with celebrities, including Travis Kalanick of Uber Technologies Inc. and Kevin Plank of Under Armour Inc. (in suit, tie and bright blue sneakers).

The Garden Brunch is hosted by a very Washington mix of names, including Tammy Haddad of Haddad Media, Kevin Sheekey of Bloomberg, Hilary Rosen of SKDKnickerbocker, Kuno, Fred Humphries of Microsoft Corp., the Eins, Constance Milstein of Ogden CAP Properties LLC, Anita Dunn and Bill Knapp, both of SKDKnickerbocker, David Adler of BizBash and Franco Nuschese of Cafe Milano.
