The scene: A surrealist playground at this year’s Night Nouveau

Held at the historic Halcyon House mansion in Georgetown, the annual Night Nouveau party returned Saturday wilder and weirder than ever with a surrealism theme for its young professional guests, reports our “The Scene” photographer Kate Warren. Guests noshed on food from Daikaya, Sushiko, Peruvian Brothers, Dolci Gelati and Georgetown Cupcake. The party, which benefits the S&R Foundation, featured a maze, performance artists and an after party at Malmaison.

Now, dress codes prescribing all manner of creative attire have become quite fashionable. Guests to last month’s D.C. installation of the global “chic picnic” Dinner en Blanc were advised to sport all white — and they did, from their bridal veils and angel wings down to their spats. Wondering how to comply with the “Surreal Cocktail” mandate for Saturday’s Night Nouveau charity fundraiser? The event’s Web site helpfully offers inspiration pictures, including one of a lady with a birdcage perched on her head.
